Filing deadline approaches for seeking office in Md.

The clock's ticking for anyone wishing to run for public office in this year's election.

The deadline to file for office is 9 p.m. July 3, and the Washington County Board of Elections office at 35 W. Washington St. will be open until 9 that night to accommodate late filers.

Candidates for county offices, courthouse offices, the Washington County Board of Education and party central committees must file at the county elections office. The filing fee for those offices is $25 except for central committee positions, which are $10.

Candidates for state or federal office or Circuit Court judge must file at the state elections office in Annapolis. Fees are $290 for governor, lieutenant governor or U.S. Senate, $100 for U.S. House of Representatives and $50 for General Assembly offices or Circuit Court judge.

Candidates must file in person and have a form of identification and know their election districts and precincts.
