SHENANDOAH JUNCTION, W.Va. - A rain storm came around 9 p.m. Friday night and forced Jefferson County Relay for Life participates to walk inside Jefferson High School's 9th Grade Complex, but that didn't dampen the enthusiasm of participants, an event organizer said.

"Spirits were very high," Dan Hart, publicity co-chair, said Sunday. The walkers returned outside about an hour later.

The walk began around 7:15 p.m. and continued through the night to 8 a.m. Saturday, said Linda Hart, publicity co-chair.

"Just shy of $120,000" was raised at the event, which raises money for the American Cancer Society.

More money will come in, she said.

Close to 500 people from 26 teams participated in the event, she said.

Glen Greenstreet, representing the team United by Hope, was named Mr. Relay, Dan Hart said. United by Hope was sponsored by Charles Town Moose Clubs 948 and 1028, he said.

Chairwomen for the Relay were Heather Fauble and Michelle Hart, while Amy Dillow was the honorary chairperson.
