Humane Society ride canceled due to heavy rain

June 26, 2006|by ERIN CUNNINGHAM

The Humane Society of Washington County canceled its third annual Dave Alderson Memorial Ride due to rain, but continued Sunday afternoon with other planned activities.

Paul Miller, Humane Society executive director, said the event - called Bone To Be Wild - grows in popularity each year. This year, 140 riders were preregistered, and 300 people had signed up for lunch, Miller said.

Last year's event raised $18,000 for the Humane Society, and Miller said this year's event should raise the same amount despite the cancellation of the ride.

"This is pretty good for a rainout," he said.

Prizes including dog training and restaurant gift certificates were raffled at Williamsport Harley-Davidson. Lunch was served at Williamsport Red Men Lodge, and there was a concert by the Davisson Brothers Band.
