June 26, 2006

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Shippensburg University's Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team finished among the top 20 teams in the 2006 SIFE USA National Exposition in May in Kansas City, Mo., according to a press release from the university.

The Shippensburg team advanced to the national competition by winning at the regional level in March. At the national competition, the team defeated five other colleges and universities and finished fifth in its semifinal league, according to the release.

One of the winning projects for the Shippensburg team was the "Coffee Corner," a Shippensburg business. Team members helped a local woman start her own coffee business by distributing fliers and developing the business' Web site, according to the release.

SIFE is an international nonprofit organization active on university campuses in more than 40 countries.

The teams make a difference in their communities by organizing community service projects that teach market economics, success skills, entrepreneurship, financial literacy and business ethics. The projects are judged on creativity, innovation and effectiveness.
