Soccer registration

The Hagerstown Area Youth Soccer League is holding its final fall registration on Thursday, June 29, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hagerstown Fairgrounds.

Registration will be held at the pavilion by the soccer fields. Boys and girls from 8 to 18 are eligible to participate. Girls only divisions in U5 through U15; Coed divisions in U8 through U10. A Very Important Player Division will be offered for disabled children. The cost to participate is $45 per player; payable by cash or check. Scholarships are available. Film festival

Head out to Valley Mall with the kids and take in a show ... the mall will be hosting a free family film festival through Wednesday, Aug. 16. The movies will be shown each Tuesday, and Wednesday beginning at 10 a.m., all summer long! The movies that will be offered are rated G and PG. Kids' meals will be available. Seating is first come, first serve. Seating is limited to capacity. For more details about this summer movie showing log onto for more information. The following movies have been selected for the summer shows: "March of the Penguins," "Racing Stripes," "Polar Express," "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," "Wallace and Gromit," "Shark Tale," "Babe: Pig in the City," "Shrek 2," "Clifford's Really Big Move," "Zathura," "Elmo in Grouchland," "Madagascar," "Spirit: Stallion of Cimarron," "Yours, Mine and Ours," "Curious George," "Robots," "Jimmy Neutron" and "Fat Albert."


Sidewalk sales

Head to the mall to the cool indoors for the annual 4th of July Sidewalk Sales. The event begins on Saturday, July 1 and run through Tuesday, July 4. Many of the shops will have merchandise set up outside the stores for bargain hunters.

Museum's Family Day

Visit the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts for an exciting day with family and friends on Saturday, July 8, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Celebrate the opening of the photography exhibition, "Arrested Motion: 1950s Railroad Photographs" by O. Winston Link.

Special speakers, train videos and recordings, adult and children's' art activities, food and more will be a part of the celebration. A special train exhibit, sponsored by the Hagerstown Roundhouse Museum will be on display on the tracks along Key Street. The artwork created by the children in the train art workshop will be judged and the winner will be announced at 3:45 p.m. For more information, call 301-739-5727, ext. 24.

In remembrance

In honor of a beautiful lady, my dear Little Grandma Ruth Brown, who would have celebrated her 72nd birthday on Friday, June 23.

Wish you were still here with us, Grandma, to share your hugs, your kisses, your love and laughter. We miss on your special day and every day. You will always remain in our hearts and prayers. With much love, from your children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
