Home-improvement expert Allegra Bennett to appear

June 21, 2006

Author and home-improvement expert Allegra Bennett will demonstrate "How to Fix a Hole in a Wall" and share other home-repair hints Sunday, July 9, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Washington County Free Library, 100 S. Potomac St. in Hagerstown.

A book signing will follow the program. Books will be available for purchase or attendees may bring their own.

Bennett, publisher of Renovating Woman, is a home-repair expert on "Home Made Easy," a home-care show on DIY cable network, and the author of three home-improvement books.

As Renovating Woman, Allegra performs a one-woman show on homeowner escapades and conducts home repair do-it-yourself workshops. She has served as the home repair adviser for Lendingtree.com. Allegra writes articles about homeownership for magazines, newspapers and Web sites.

In 2002, she partnered with Habitat for Humanity's Women Build program and toured cities encouraging women to become self-sufficient homeowners.

Her most recent book, "When a Woman Takes an Axe to a Wall," came out in 2002 and was renovated in 2006 to include a DVD. Allegra has appeared on The Discovery Channel's home-repair show, "Work in Progress," as host of "On the Level" and as a guest on "Home Matters."
