Summer Concerts in the Park season schedule released

June 20, 2006

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - The Morgan Arts Council launches the 20th season for Summer Concerts in the Park with a lineup that coordinator Gordon Macleod touts as one of the best ever.

"We have the traditional music supergroup The Percolators, Manhattan rock/fok star Deni Bonet and a pair of WAMY (Washington Area Music Award) winners." Macleod is especially pleased about two of the concerts. "We have another African dance group on the schedule, this year coordinated with an African basket show at the Ice House Gallery," he said.

The free concert series has something for every taste, from Hawaiian swing and hillbilly tunes to modern jazz and African drums. The eight-concert series begins on July 8 at 5:30 p.m. at Cacapon State Park. The rest of the concerts are staged along the mountainside that makes up the western border of Berkeley Springs State Park and include every Saturday in July and August at 5:30 p.m., with the Ice House as the rain location.

The summer concert series was the brainchild of the late Linda Fallon and introduced in 1987 to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Morgan Arts Council. In the years since, it has drawn more than 40,000 attendees.
