June 18, 2006

A 16-year-old boy from Waynesboro, Pa., was taken to Washington County Hospital early Saturday following a high-speed police chase on Md. 64, according to a press release from the Washington County Sheriff's Department.

Washington County was notified of the chase leaving Smithsburg west on Md. 64 about 3:28 a.m. Saturday, according to the release.

Deputies caught up to the chase at Emerald Drive, where they set down spike strips. The vehicle ran over the spike strips, and continued for a short distance until the driver lost control of the vehicle, which struck a utility pole and overturned near Robinwood Drive, according to the release.

Lt. Tim Baker of the Sheriff's Department said the department issued traffic citations to the boy.

Baker said the juvenile was taken to the hospital and returned to his parents.

Baker said he could not release any more information about the chase.

The Sheriff's Department assisted the Waynesboro (Pa.) and Washington Township (Pa.) police departments in the chase, according to the release.
