Danielle Uphold, 6, daughter of Larissa Uphold of Hagerstown, has been chosen as a State Finalist in the National American Miss Maryland Pageant, to be held Aug. 3-5 at the Hyatt Regency in Reston, Va.

Danielle will compete in the age 4-6 group.

Her activities include Missionettes in her church, Girl Scouts and soccer. She also enjoys reading, coloring, school, the outdoors, snow skiing with her family and playing with her friends.

Her sponsors include Bethel Assembly of God, Bopat Electric Co., Spanky's Used Cars, Minnick's Plumbing, Central Maryland Contracting, Darren and Mindy Stevenson, Younger Toyota and her parents.




Brooke Anne Pettner, 15, daughter of Candy Suarez of Hagerstown, has been chosen as a State Finalist in the National American Miss Maryland Pageant, to be held Aug. 3-5 at the Hyatt Regency in Reston, Va.

Brooke will compete in the age 13-15 group.

Her activities include the varsity cross country and track and field teams and the junior varsity basketball team at North Hagerstown High School. She also enjoys using the computer, socializing with her friends and reading good books.

Her sponsors include Mr. and Mrs. Andres Suarez, Mr. and Mrs. Conrad, the Thompson family, teachers from Northern Middle School, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Mayne, the Pettner family and the Donaldson family.

The age-group winners at the state pageant each will receive a $1,000 cash award, the official crown and banner, a bouquet of roses and air transportation to compete in the national pageant at Disneyland in California.

The pageant program is based on inner beauty, as well as poise and presentation. Emphasis is placed on the importance of gaining self-confidence, learning new skills, learning good attitudes about competition, and setting and achieving personal goals.
