Pen Mar Park concert series

The Pen Mar Park 2006 Summer Concert Series continues on Sunday.

The featured group is Just Friends, who will be making their first appearance. The group of seven musicians will be at Pen Mar Park from 2 to 5 p.m. When Local 770 viewed and listened to this group's music, they made an impression. Make every effort to see this talented group from Harrisburg, Pa.

These free concerts are made possible thanks to the Washington County Commissioners, the Recreation and Parks Departments and donations by park patrons. As budgets become tighter, it has become necessary to rely more and more on donations in order to keep the music alive.

Old Forge Elementary

Message from Mr Festerman continued:

"I've long been intrigued with the notion of teaching young people that they have the capacity to build their lives in unlimited directions, particularly young people who think they can't.

"Doing so is much like, I think, going Mach 1 or Mach 2 when such speeds have never been flown before or 'thinking out of the box' when everything tells you to think inside the box.

"The common denominator is that the person involved must change how he or she views both the world and self is repeated throughout the many case studies involving resilient children.

"Resilient children are children who experience adversity in their lives but, in spite of what some might consider insurmountable odds, still build successful lives. Why do some children successfully overcome adversity and others do not?"

Smithsburg Middle

Congratulations to the sixth and eighth grade bands for participating in the Washington County Large Ensemble Festival held on March 30. Both bands received a superior rating, which is the highest rating possible. Great job!
