Council votes to have fence removed from small park

June 16, 2006|by JENNIFER FITCH

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - The fence at the South Franklin Street park is set to be removed following Waynesboro Borough Council action on Wednesday.

Council was split last week on whether to remove the fence, so a special meeting was scheduled for the mayor to break the tie. Several votes changed on a second motion after the borough's solicitor indicated the municipality would bear greater liability for a damaged fence than not having one at all.

The fence has been repeatedly damaged by vandalism, occasionally leaving sharp pieces exposed or in the play area.
