Thelma M. Monn, 78


AUG. 15, 1927-JUNE 14, 2006

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Thelma M. Elbin Monn, 78, of Shook Home, and formerly of 56 Hillside Drive, died of cancer Wednesday, June 14, 2006, at the nursing home.

Born Aug. 15, 1927, in Artemas, Pa., she was the daughter of the late H. Howard and Ada M. Collins Elbin.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Milton S. Monn, in 1993. They were married June 18, 1949.

She was a 1944 graduate of Everett (Pa.) High School and a 1948 graduate of Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Cumberland, Md.

She was last employed by Waynesboro Hospital, retiring in 1976.

She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Fayetteville, Pa.

She was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees Local Chapter 1063 of Chambersburg and National AARP.

She is survived by two daughters, Connie M. Rubin of Chambersburg and Kay A. Dawson of Fayetteville; two grandchildren, Michael C. Dawson of Camp Hill, Pa., and Holly M. Dawson of Fayetteville; nieces; and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, M. Roscoe Elbin, M. Leo Elbin and T. Blair Elbin.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home in Waynesboro. The Rev. David L. Hefner will officiate. Burial will follow in Mount Zion Cemetery, near Quincy, Pa.

The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

L. Ford Harwood, 92

JEFFERSON, Md. - L. Ford Harwood, 92, of Jefferson, died Wednesday, June 14, 2006, at his home.

Born June 4, 1914, in Greencastle, Pa., he was the son of the late Lee C. and Nell Newkirk Harwood.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Roelkey Harwood, in 2001.

He was a dairy farmer.

He is survived by one daughter, Mary E. Crampton of Jefferson; one brother, James N. Harwood of Mount Airy, Md.; two granddaughters, Kimberly A. Harding and Kelly S. Edwards, both of Jefferson; four great-grandchildren; and his caregiver, Robin Butler.

He was preceded in death by sisters and brothers, George Harwood, Clark Harwood, Jeptha Harwood, Earl Harwood, Alice Bane and Mary Harwood.

Graveside services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Frederick, Md.

Arrangements are by Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home in Middletown, Md.




Dorothy B. Rowe, 80

HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - Dorothy B. Rowe, 80, of Harpers Ferry, died Tuesday, June 13, 2006, at her home.

Born July 22, 1925, in Newcastle, England, she was the daughter of Robert Frankish.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mike Rowe; and two brothers.

She is survived by one daughter, Dorothy C. Rowe of Harpers Ferry; and one son, Michael P. Rowe of Aldie, Va.

Services will be private.

Arrangements are by Eackles-Spencer and Norton Funeral Home in Harpers Ferry.




Clarence R. Bryan, 83

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Clarence R. "Dick" Bryan, 83, of 237 E. Baltimore St. died Tuesday, June 13, 2006, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Feb. 8, 1923, in Waynesboro, Pa., he was the son of the late Adam W. and Effie V. Cramer Bryan.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty J. Routzhan Bryan, in 1994. They were married Jan. 19, 1946.

He attended Waynesboro schools.

He worked for Mack Trucks in Hagerstown, retiring in 1983.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army.

He is survived by one daughter, Brenda S. Bryan of Greencastle; two sons, Terry R. Bryan and Gary L. Bryan, both of Greencastle; two sisters, Doris E. Jones and Shirley A. Eck, both of Waynesboro; one brother, Woodrow W. Bryan of Waynesboro; and two grandsons.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Helen V. McIntire Shindledecker, Ethel K. Shockey and Margaret L. Fahrney; and three brothers, Howard J. Bryan, Harold C. Bryan and Charles W. Bryan.

Visitation will be Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home in Greencastle.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Greencastle.

The family requests the omission of flowers.

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Cranston R. Hill, 79, of 8791 Little Cove Road, died Tuesday, June 13, 2006, at Chambersburg (Pa.) Hospital.

Born Sept. 6, 1926, in Cove Gap, Pa., he was the son of the late Cloyd and Edith V. Graham Hill.

He was a stone mason, working privately and for local contractors.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army.

He attended Charlestown United Methodist Church of Cove Gap.

He was a member of Harry Lackhove American Legion Post 517 of Mercersburg and a former member of MMP&W Fire Co. of Mercersburg.
