WILLIAMSPORT - On June 9, the Town of Williamsport held a grant announcement ceremony in Byron Memorial Park to celebrate the receipt of a $60,000 grant from the Department of Natural Resources and from the Community Parks and Playground Program for playground equipment.

Featured guests for the announcement were Sen. Donald F. Munson, R-Washington, and Del. Robert A. McKee, R-Washington.

Also participating were representatives of Redland Brick, Rehoboth United Methodist Church and 4-Star Athletic Club, who have pledged support; N. Linn Hendershot, former Hagerstown City Councilman who was representing MIHI; town council members Gloria Bitner, Nelson Deal and Jeff Cline; and Assistant Mayor Monty Jones.

The event included a "tossing of the dirt" groundbreaking ceremony.

Once completed, the new playground equipment will provide access for children of all abilities to interact, no matter their physical challenges.

The grant is the first of its kind for the town from this specific program, Cline said.
