Mail Call

"In reference to these places where people works at, such as hospitals, libraries and so forth, I feel these people that works at these places are there to serve the people; serve the public. I feel these people aren't there to criticize people that comes through the door at these places. I've noticed whenever I go to these places such as the hospital where my mother is a patient there, and also a local library, I observe people criticizing people such as myself as soon as you walk in the door and all. I feel if these people don't like their job working at these places, then maybe they should go elsewhere for another job."

- Greencastle, Pa.

"This is concerning the person from Williamsport who had in Thursday's paper that an oil man told him that gas prices are high because they have to make money for state employee pension plans. If you believe something like that, I own an oil well in Williamsport I'll sell you for cheap."

"When you flush, think of us. No school bus depot at Williamsport Elementary School. Save the bay."

"Regarding the controversy over hairdressers and tipping, you never tip your hairdresser if she is also the shop owner, but a hired employee of the owner should be tipped 15 to 20 percent. That is the proper procedure for tipping hairdressers. Thank you."

"About the KKK, I'm not against them for marching and things like that, but why do they cover their face up? That's what I would like to know. Until they can come out in the openi and be friends with everybody, I think they should stay put."

- Boonsboro

"I'd like to know why Bush is bringing this marriage situation up again. Two years ago he brought it up, and it helped him get elected, because conservatives and the religious right take his side. After he got elected he forgot about it, until another election's coming up, and he's bringing it out again. I don't think this thing belongs in politics. I think it should be settled otherwise. I believe in one man, a man and woman is to be married, not man and man or woman and woman. It's just the wrong way of going about it right now."

- Washington County

"The city police in Hagerstown need to set speed traps on Church Street in the West End of Hagerstown. There is way too much speeding going on, and someone is going to get hurt, or a child will be hit by a car."

"You can certainly tell that education is lacking in Hagerstown and the surrounding areas. A Williamsport man said an oil man told him that gas prices are high because they had to make money for the state employee pension plans ... not to mention that they have to pay millions and millions of dollars to their CEOs. I can't understand why people attack things like people's pensions and Social Security and think it's perfectly fine for a CEO to collect unheard-of moneys."

- Washington County

"I was wondering if anybody out there might know when and where an Olive Garden Italian restaurant might be built in the Hagerstown area. Let me know. Thanks."

- Clear Spring

"I am interested in knowing why the gasoline prices show nine-tenths at the end of the price per gallon. I think we all know that the gas prices are high. Does anybody out there really think nine-tenths of a cent per gallon should just be dropped - just make it an even amount? I'm kind of curious what other people think. I'd like to see it dropped."

- Clear Spring

"I'm calling regarding the tipping of waitresses in our area. I just want to let people know that I'm a waitress, and I do give excellent service to every customer that comes through those doors. When people don't tip, they're really taking money from the waitress that she has earned. I don't go to work every day to wait on you people hand and foot and take time away from my children for nothing. I should get paid for the work I do. I wash every dish that touches their table, I wash the tables, I clean the floors. I do everything that it takes to get their meal on the table, and I do it in a timely manner, and I'm friendly."

"I want to know how many people read the paper the other day and see all these financial numbers of the different volunteer fire companies take in on bingo and tip jars. If that is true, I know it's not all profit, but they'd better quit sending out notices to support the fire company, because they're living on high hill."

- Washington County

"I find it quite interesting that in a question you asked about the Ku Klux Klan being allowed to hold a rally at the battlefield, not one of the people that you talked to was a person of color. I would think that that sort of speaks volumes to exactly what the issue is about the Ku Klux Klan. Thank you."

- Washington County

"In the Daily Mail, June 7, there was a picture in the paper of an assistant principal and a principal of a local school who's laying on the floor kissing a pig. I don't think that is a very good testimony for a religious school. It seems to me it's not in very good taste."
