Around North Hagerstown

June 13, 2006|by JANE SCHMIDT

Just 'ducky' good news!

A few weeks ago, we had the pleasure of our fine feathered friends Daffy and Daisy Duck visiting us again for their three squares a day of delicious cracked corn daily special served at the Schmidt family backyard birdseed diner, courtesy of Tori and Kelley.

Well, Daffy has been visiting a bit here and there, but, sadly, Daisy no longer comes to our backyard. The mystery of the duck pair's disappearance from regular visits for sustenance to the Schmidt family backyard was solved two weeks ago when Kelley was playing at her friend Felicity's house. Felicity's backyard is adjacent to the creek near Potomac Heights. The girls were splashing about in the creek in Kelley's raft when they encountered a very proud Daffy and Daisy who were being followed by five waddling and boisterously quacking yellow ducklings. Kelley was most certain it was the same duck pair, as she recognized Daffy by the unique markings on his chest.

So, congratulations, Daffy and Daisy Duck, on your brand new brood of ducklings - we are already looking forward to your visits once again to the Schmidt family backyard next springtime. In the meantime, we may stop by to visit you for a change and get a glimpse of those five fluffy feathered delights!

Way to go, Camden!

I'd like to commend 5-year-old Camden Casey on his recent heroic citation honoring his efforts to get help for his mother Melissa by calling 911 and directing police and paramedics correctly to his home in February. Camden received a Certificate of Honor from the Hagerstown Police Department this past week.

Congratulations, Camden, for your quick thinking to get help for your mom - your family and friends are truly quite proud of you!

Happy birthday, Kelley!

A certain "brown-eyed miss" will turn a magical ten years old on Wednesday, June 14 - I'd like to wish my youngest daughter Kelley a very happy birthday and a wonderful year - we love you, sweetie!

Flag Day

Please note that Wednesday is Flag Day - so be sure to fly those "stars and stripes" high and proud in support of our country and our service men and women who are honorably defending our freedoms.
