Two bridge repair projects under way

Construction on two bridge repair projects has begun, according to a press release from the Washington County Engineering Department.

Nick Road Bridge just east of Harpers Ferry Road will be open to local and emergency traffic only until Friday, July 14, due to reconstruction of a culvert, according to the release. One lane will remain open at all times during construction.

Catholic Church Bridge over Rattle Run Creek, approximately 3 1/2 miles from Indian Springs Road, north of Clear Spring, will be closed to traffic until Thursday, July 13, due to reconstruction of the creek crossing.

Air quality information available on Web site

Washington County residents can check air quality forecasts and get tips to help them breathe easier at a Web site, according to a press release from county government.

An extended range of air quality forecasts provides the public and business community advance notice of air quality events. Advance notice allows the public to limit exposure to unhealthy air and enact a plan to reduce pollution at home and at work, according to the release.

Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) forecasts daily ozone and particle levels and issues e-mails to the public, businesses and the media via AirWatch. AirWatch is a "real time" air quality data notification system that can be visited online at or by calling 410-537-3247.

For information on air quality, call the Washington County Planning Department at 240-313-2430 or MDE's Air Quality Hotline at 410-537-3247.
