Budget approved

CLEAR SPRING - After a public hearing which attracted no members of the public, the Clear Spring Mayor and Council approved the fiscal year 2006-07 budget of $457,105 on Monday.

"It is pretty much the same as last year," said Town Clerk Juanita Grimm. The previous fiscal year budget was $468,526.

Water and sewer rates will remain unchanged as will the real estate tax rate. A 5 percent discount applies for anyone paying those taxes in July.

Fees introduced

CLEAR SPRING - A six-page list of new countywide building fees was introduced and approved at the Clear Spring town meeting Monday night.

Prepared by the Washington County Department of Permits and Inspections, some of the fees are more than double the existing rates.

Clear Spring was asked to approve the rates since the county performs all inspections within the town limits, said Mayor Paul Hose Jr.

"We retain 25 percent of whatever the fee is," added Town Clerk Juanita Grimm.

Councilman Steve Blickenstaff said the new fees will put about $600,000 back in the county's general fund.
