Mattie M. Coleman, 78

PLEASANTVILLE, Md. - Mattie Marie Coleman, 78, of Pleasantville, died Friday, June 9, 2006, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Dec. 14, 1927, in Charles Town, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late John Robert and Mollie Nichols Dodson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul A. Coleman.

She retired from the GSA Department of Energy in Germantown, Md., as a custodian.

She was a member of Pleasantville Church of God.

She was a member of Women of the Moose Chapter 660 and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1136, both of Brunswick, Md., and Jeffersonian Patriotic Club of Frederick, Md.

She is survived by two daughters, Paula M. Kuhn of Knoxville, Md., and Amy D. Cogle of Harpers Ferry, W.Va.; three sons, Billy R. Coleman, John I. Coleman and Glenn A. Coleman, all of Knoxville; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Arbtsus B. Hardy, B. Genieve Ritenour and Peggy J. Heffner; and four brothers, John W. Dodson, Marvin E. Dodson, Roy E. Dodson and Richard Dodson.

Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Eackles-Spencer and Norton Funeral Home, Harpers Ferry. Burial will be in Samples Manor (Md.) Cemetery .

The family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.




Kenneth R. Stevens Jr., 58

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Kenneth Raymond Stevens Jr., 58, of Berkeley Springs, died Thursday, June 8, 2006, at War Memorial Hospital.

Born March 19, 1948, in Kanawha County, W.Va., he was the son of Kenneth Raymond Stevens Sr. and Ruby Ellen Hurley Stevens of Berkeley Springs.

He retired from the Western Correctional Institution in Cumberland, Md.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Rita Mayhew Stevens; three children, Joshua D. Stevens, Joel D. Stevens and Jesse D. Stevens, all of Berkeley Springs; three sisters, Brenda Rhinehart of Berkeley Springs, Janet Rowland of Falling Waters, W.Va., and Debbie Herb of Pennsylvania; three brothers, John Stevens of Berkeley Springs, Tim Stevens of Tennessee, and Mike Stevens of West Virginia; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Kenneth R. Stevens III.

Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg, W.Va. The Rev. Dennis Rhinehart will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown, with military graveside services by the U.S. Marine Corps.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.




Alice J. Wood, 78


JULY 21, 1927-JUNE 9, 2006

TOMAHAWK, W.Va. - Alice Jane Wood, 78, of Tomahawk, died Friday, June 9, 2006, at her home.

Born July 21, 1927, in Norristown, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Hubert Walter Pohle and Alice B. Sellers Pohle.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene R. Wood.

She was a member of Williamsport Seventh-day Adventist Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Linda J. Hile of Frederick, Md.; two sons, Richard G. Wood of Saskatchewan, Canada, and Ronald W. Wood of Arbor Vitae, Wis.; three sisters, Elizabeth Waters of Greenville, N.C., Althea Cree of Fredericksburg, Va., and Delores P. Master of Falling Waters, W.Va.; one brother, Robert W. Pohle of Dayton, Ohio; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Randal S. Wood; one sister, Marian M. Pohle; and three brothers, Clarence E. Pohle, Clifton H. Pohle and William W. Pohle.

A memorial service will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Williamsport Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Private burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery, Martinsburg, W.Va.

Ernest L. Hite Sr., 68

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Ernest Lee Hite Sr., 68, of Martinsburg, died Friday, June 9, 2006, at City Hospital.

Born Nov. 11, 1937, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Elmer Lee Hite and Myrtle Mae James Hite.

He was an employee of Westinghouse, previously in Baltimore.

He is survived by two sons, Ernest L. Hite Jr. of Kennesaw, Ga., and Ronald L. Hite of Coral Springs, Fla.; three sisters, Beulah A. Anderson and Vernie M. Edwards, both of Martinsburg, and Violet P. Jones of Baltimore; four grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister and six brothers.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. David Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Central Chapel Cemetery, Ganotown, W.Va.

The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

GREAT CACAPON, W.Va. - Bernard Alston Bailey, 77, of Great Cacapon, died Saturday, June 10, 2006, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born June 11, 1928, in Paw Paw, W.Va., he was the son of the late Leonard Alston and Emily Jane Parrill Bailey.
