Glessner Alarm & Communications

Glessner Alarm & Communications, a security and communications company serving Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia and Pennsylvania since 1972, has been named a Five Star Dealer for 2006 by Home Automation Inc. (HAI).

HAI is a leading manufacturer of integrated automation and security products. The announcement was made at HAI's annual Dealer Appreciation Party at the Electronic House Expo in Orlando, Fla., on March 31.

HAI's Five-Star Dealer program was initiated in 2001 to recognize and reward its outstanding dealers. Winners were selected based on various criteria, including the number of years the dealer has been installing HAI products, number of systems installed in the previous year, and unique marketing or programming solutions that involved an HAI product.

Office Essentials

Office Essentials, a Hagerstown-based company, was awarded the Blue Diamond Award by United Stationers Supply Co.

United Stationers, which presented two of the awards in Maryland, recognized Office Essentials for its sales performance and commitment to customer satisfaction.


Office Essentials, which is celebrating its 15th anniversary, markets a complete line of office furniture, office supplies, janitorial supplies and printing to area businesses in a four-state area.


The Cumberland Valley Chapter of Associated Builders & Contractors presented safety training and evaluation process (STEP) awards to to members during the chapter's Safety Dinner meeting May 18 at Four Points Sheraton in Hagerstown.

The awards recognize the efforts of ABC members who strive to achieve effective safety practices at their firms and provide contractors with a tool to objectively evaluate their safety programs, policies and procedures.

Receiving awards were:

Platinum - GRC General Contractor Inc. and Morgan Keller Inc.

Gold - Beitzel Corportation, Brechbill & Helman Construction Co., D.L. George & Sons Construction Co., Elsworth Electric Inc., Emmitsburg Glass Co., Harkins Builders, RW Warner Inc. and Waynesboro Construction Co. Inc.

Silver - Miller and Anderson Inc.

A $1,000 safety scholarship from the Safety Education Trust Committee was presented to Charles McIntire, GRC General Contractor Inc.

Edward Jones

For the fourth consecutive year, the financial-services firm Edward Jones received the Workplace Excellence Seal of Approval, according to investment representatives in Washington County.

The nonprofit Alliance for Workplace Excellence awarded 48 Maryland employers with the 2006 Seal of Approval.
