Greencastle group prepares to play host to the 'Queen'

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - The Greencastle Amateur Players will present the premiere of "The Snow Queen" this weekend in the Jerome R. King Playground bandshell.

Show times are tonight at 7 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.

Written by Mecersburg, Pa., resident June McIntosh and based on a story by Hans Christian Anderson, "The Snow Queen" is the story of childhoods friends Kai and Gerda. After an evil goblin's mischief causes Kai to run away with a mysterious stranger, Gerda sets off on a quest to bring him home, meeting many strange characters along the way.

Directed by Ellen Burke and Anna Treichler, "The Snow Queen" features Rachel Travis and David Hill as Gerda and Kai, and Laura Martin as the title character. The performance is narrated by Isaac Hudzinski, Laura Eby, Connor Smith and Caity See.

Also appearing are Skyler Allen; Andrew, Jessie and Fiona Burke; Emily Eadie; Ethan, Michael and Hannah Goldbach; Ariana and Mary Hudzinski; Zoe Huston; Naomi and Sylvia Madaras; Taryn Owens; Owen and Francis Peet; Gena Rodriguez; Kayleigh Smith; Meagan Smith; Miriam Thornton; and Sam Treichler.


Newcomers Madison Anglin, Kate and Allison Carbaugh, Sarah Davis, Laura Jeu, Carina Martin, Celia Medoza, Ashley Travis, Vanessa Trevitz and Cassidy Zimmerman round out the cast.

Sylvia Madaras handled costume design and Markia Walck returns as stage manager.

"The Snow Queen" is the fourth annual free family production staged by the Greencastle Amateur Players at the bandshell.

The cast also has been invited to perform June 17 at 4 p.m. at the Thornwald Amphitheater in Carlisle, Pa.
