EMS calls for May listed

SMITHSBURG - Smithsburg Emergency Medical Services personnel responded to 81 calls for service in May, bringing the 2006 total to 454 as of the end of the month.

Of the 81 calls, six were to Frederick County, Md., and three were to Franklin County, Pa., according to Capt. James Ulrich. Twelve calls were in Smithsburg town limits while another 15 were to Leitersburg and six calls were to the Mount Aetna area.

The most common type of call during the month was vehicle accidents, accounting for 14 responses. Smithsburg EMS personnel transported 60 patients to area hospitals during May.

Personnel also assisted on several evenings with standby coverage for Boonsboro Ambulance and Rescue during their annual carnival.
