Sheriff's deputies respond to calls

The Washington County Sheriff's Department responded to the following calls Monday, Lt. Mark Knight said:

At 4 p.m., tools and change were reported stolen from three vehicles in the 19600 block of Marigold Drive.

At 12:05 p.m., a pool in the 17300 block of Ontario Drive was reported damaged. A broken golf club was found in the pool.

Md. man charged with assault

WALKERSVILLE, Md. - A Walkersville man was charged Wednesday with assault and reckless endangerment for his alleged involvement in an April 16 incident, Frederick County Sheriff's deputies said.

Matthew Alan Miller, 21, was charged with first-degree and second-degree assault and reckless endangerment, police said.

Police said an assault occurred about 6:45 p.m. in the 8000 block of Treasure Avenue in Walkersville, and both the victim and the suspect left the area after the assault.


The victim, a 26-year-old Walkersville man, was flown to University of Maryland Shock Trauma in Baltimore for treatment, police said.

A warrant was issued for Miller's arrest May 26, and he was arrested at his home Wednesday.

Woman found injured, unconscious

FREDERICK, Md. - A woman was found Tuesday at a home in Frederick unconscious and with significant injuries, Frederick County Sheriff's deputies said.

The woman's roommate in the 5000 block of Bamburg Court called police about 3:30 a.m. and said the 24-year-old woman was lying on the living room floor, police said. The woman knew the person who attacked her, police said.

Police said the investigation was continuing.

All-terrain vehicle stolen from business

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - An all-terrain vehicle was stolen from Stouffer Brothers Inc. in Chambersburg sometime between April 18 and 25, Pennsylvania State Police said.

The vehicle was a 2003 silver Polaris Predator 500 four-wheeler.

Trooper injured in assault in Fulton Co.

McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - One Pennsylvania State Police trooper was injured while trying to take two people into custody just after midnight Wednesday.

Troopers Steven S. Kagarise, 39, and Ryan K. Cohen, 30, were at the Cardinal Glen apartment complex investigating a domestic disturbance when the assault occurred, police said.

Kagarise tried to take Wendy Sue Barnett, 30, of 331 Woodside Drive, into custody, but she resisted, police said. Dustin Anthony Doyle, 25, of 2569 Back Run Road, began to struggle with both troopers, police said. Doyle allegedly bit Cohen's right thumb, causing a small cut.

Doyle was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, resisting arrest, criminal mischief and harassment, police said. Barnett was charged with resisting arrest, public drunkenness and disorderly conduct.

Cohen had a minor injury, police said.

Man injured in motorcycle crash

AMARANTH, Pa. - A Warfordsburg, Pa., man was seriously injured in a motorcycle crash Tuesday night just south of Amaranth in Union Township, Pa.

Pennsylvania State Police said Daniel Ryan Jansen, 25, was driving north on Fairview Road in Fulton County, Pa., when he lost control while rounding a curve. Jansen was thrown from the motorcycle, a 2000 Honda 660F4.

He slid across the double yellow line and off the left side of the road and under the guardrail on the opposite side of the road, police said.

Police said Tuesday that Jansen had serious injuries.

Five injured in crash on Pa. 997

FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Five people were injured in a collision Tuesday afternoon at the intersection of Pa. 997 and Mountain Drive in Guilford Township, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

Two of the injured, including a 2-year-old boy, were flown to Hershey (Pa.) Medical Center by helicopters, Fayetteville Deputy Fire Chief Scott Williamson said. The other three were taken to an area hospital by ambulance, he said.

Joshua M. Fink, 26, of Rouzerville, Pa., was driving south in a Chevrolet van when he crossed into the northbound lane of Anthony Highway, police said. Fink continued to drive south in the northbound lane and struck another vehicle head-on.

The other vehicle, a 2000 Dodge, was driven by Dawn M. Mathis, 32, of Hagers-town, police said. Corey Wade Amos, 27, of Hagers- town, and a 2-year-old boy were in the Dodge.

Douglas Guy Myers of Gettysburg, Pa., was a passenger in the Chevrolet, police said.

Fink, Mathis and Amos had minor injuries, police said. Myers had moderate injuries and was taken with the 2-year-old boy to Hershey Medical Center, police said.

Myers was in critical condition late Tuesday, according to a nursing supervisor there.

The road was closed for about two hours after the crash, he said.

Emergency personnel from the Franklin and Mont Alto volunteer fire companies also went to the scene, Williamson said.
