A Greencastle, Pa., man was killed Tuesday night in a head-on collision on U.S. 11, north of Showalter Road, Maryland State Police said in a news release.

William A. Parlette III, 51, was killed on impact when his 1983 Chevrolet Malibu hit head-on with a 2004 Lincoln Navigator at about 10 p.m. on U.S. 11 at Fortney Drive, police said.

Parlette was traveling north and crossed the center line, but continued to travel northbound in the southbound lane, police said.

Robert Harold Bricker Jr., who was driving the Navigator southbound, saw the Malibu and swerved into the northbound lane to avoid a collision, according to the news release.

At the same time, Parlette swerved his car back into the northbound lane and hit Bricker's vehicle head-on, police said.

Parlette was not wearing his safety belt, police said.

Bricker, 65, and his passenger, Jean Marie Bricker, 65, both of Hagerstown, were wearing their safety belts and their air bags deployed, police said.

They were taken by ambulance to Washington County Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said.

Both were treated at the hospital and released by this morning, a hospital spokeswoman said.
