CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Many of the more than 20 people arrested last week in connection with a 10-month investigation into drug trafficking in Chambersburg waived their preliminary hearings Tuesday in Franklin County Central Court.

The borough Police Department's Crime Impact Team began its sweep last Thursday for 44 people wanted on drug charges for allegedly selling crack and powder cocaine, heroin and marijuana to police informants. Others were charged with weapons violations and other crimes in the investigation, police said.

Cpl. Brian MacDonald of the Crime Impact Team said more suspects are expected to be brought in soon, and in a few cases already are in custody somewhere else. One suspect has since been charged with an armed robbery in Harrisburg, Pa., another is in state prison on other charges, one is in prison in Connecticut and police were preparing to take another into custody at a halfway house, he said.
