Power surge by Suns

June 07, 2006

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Ned Yost's two-run double highlighted a three-run fifth inning Tuesday as West Virginia built a five-run lead and held on for a 6-4 victory over the Hagerstown Suns.

The Suns attempted to come back, scoring once in the eighth and twice in the ninth, but fell short.

Waner Mateo made his first start for Hagerstown after completing a 50-game suspension for violating Major League Baseball's rule for testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance. He lasted five innings, allowing five runs on nine hits.

The Suns came back on the strength of Jonathan Sanchez's fifth home run, a solo shot in the eighth, and a two-run homer by Drew Butera in the ninth.
