You Said It

"I'm reading here in Wednesday's Daily Mail where this young boy was killed by road racing. I was sitting on my porch on Netz Road and my neighbor was standing out talking to the other neighbor and this car came down the road so fast he stepped out to stop him and he just swirled and kept on going. It's going to happen on Netz Road. There's children out on the hill. It's gonna happen sooner or later. Down on (Md.) 67, it's nothing but a road race. An innocent person is gonna get killed down here on 67."

"To the busybody at Williamsport: the lady buried her cat not deep enough in the ground, and now it's starting to decay and stink, and it smells horrible. So maybe you should mind your business."

"I'm calling from Cross Creek. I would like to make a suggestion. I'd like to say for (You Said It) to have one day in one week or so that nothing but good and favorable information can be called in. I would love to see all good things just one time in the paper. Thanks a lot."

"I'm calling about the lady who wrote about Bush: if you love him, go to Iraq and fight for him. Well, my son's been there and home, and he still doesn't badmouth Bush. If you think oil prices is his fault, what do you think would have happened if we wouldn't have went there and Saddam Hussein would have took over just like Hitler? Think about it. What would you do in the White House? Shake hands with bin Laden and Hussein? Let the president alone. He's doing what he can."

"I just wanted to comment that I think the reporter who took the picture at Cedar Lawn for the Memorial Day ceremony kind of missed the mark. The display of flags for veterans was beautiful, and all the things that mean Veterans Day or Memorial Day were missed with having the picture of the mother and child. I think that's important, but not on Memorial Day. That is reserved for veterans and their families, and I think they could have done another picture that would have been more appropriate. Thank you."

"This is in reference to all this money that's going to North High. We need to get money to every school, not just one school. What are you gonna do when people like myself are gonna be moving out of this hole because of the County Commissioners, the delegation and everybody else that's voting for all this stuff? I hope that they go broke. All we need is education and reading the books. We got schools that need repairs. I been in some of these schools recently, and I would not want my kids going to these schools. So you better shape up or ship out."

"I read here on TV the logo 'Click it or ticket,' which is a good thing, but I also would like to see law officers do a better job by stopping those hardheaded drivers who do not use their lights on rainy and foggy days. I believe it is also the law."

- Washington County

"The comment made by a caller who was raving on about parents not sending in their money for the kids' lunches at schools ... Some parents, maybe most of the parents, can't afford to now that they gotta pay so much in gas and other higher costs of living. So if we can spend $3 billion to kill people in other countries, then we can surely afford a little money to pay to feed the school kids."

"I would make a suggestion that the Daily Mail put the Mail Call into two categories: Local, referring to Hagerstown city limits, and county, referring to those of us who get the paper in the county, and even possibly surrounding areas. It doesn't seem fair that there should be so much devoted to Hagerstown callers and so little devoted to county and surrounding area callers. It's a wonderful thing to have in The Herald-Mail, and I appreciate it very much, but more and more I see it's Hagerstown just taking over the entire Mail Call, except for an occasional Sharpsburg, Rohrersville, Waynesboro."

"Regarding the school lunches, I thought things like that needed to be taken care of in order to get your report card - paying your lunch bill, turning in any overdue library books or paying any library fines if you haven't turned them in. But then again, those parents probably wouldn't care about getting a report card anyway, would they?"

"I know a lot of people are hung up on what your movie stars do. I mean, I'm sick and tired of hearing about Britney Spears and Jennifer Aniston and Jessica Simpson and Denise Richards, and all this stuff. And why don't they leave Kirstie Alley alone, and Tom Hanks? It's only a movie that Tom's in - it's not real. At least Kirstie lost weight - that's more than a lot of these American people are doing."

- Hancock

"I'm calling in regard to the comment that was made about the two County Commissioners, and I just want to say it takes a lot more than guts to be County Commissioners, so there are definitely two that I won't be voting for next election."
