Annabelle M. Sherman, 67


JULY 12, 1938-JUNE 3, 2006

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Annabelle M. Sherman, 67, of Charles Town, died Saturday, June 3, 2006, at her home.

Born July 12, 1938, in Frederick, Md., she was the daughter of the late Franklin J. and Emma E. Staub Mercer.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Sherman Jr., in 1981.

She had been employed by Care Haven Center in Martinsburg, W.Va., in the laundry department. She also worked at Shenandoah Health Village Center in Charles Town in the food service department.

She was a Protestant.

She is survived by four daughters, Rebecca Glessner of Greencastle, Pa., Linda J. Woodward of Richmond, Va., Cheryl A. James of Charles Town, and Joyce A. Hardy of Leetown, W.Va.; two sisters, Betty Stone of Ijamsville, Md., and Shirley Springer of Frederick, Md.; five brothers, John F. Mercer of Shepherdstown, W.Va., Charles Mercer and Paul Mercer, both of Frederick, Gerald Mercer of Florida, and Leonard Mercer of Libertytown, Md.; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town. Judy Fisher will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery, Martinsburg.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Lester H. Mentzer


Due to a source's error, the obituary in Saturday's Herald-Mail for Lester H. "Jim" Mentzer contained the wrong name of a survivor.

He is survived by great-granddaughter, Ashley Mentzer of Hagerstown.

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - C. Wayne Huffman Jr., 39, of Hedgesville, died Friday, June 2, 2006, in Hedgesville.

Born Jan. 12, 1967, in Martinsburg, W.Va., he was the son of Virginia Boyd Huffman of Hedgesville and the late Charles W. Huffman Sr.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by one daughter, Samantha N. Huffman of Hedgesville; one son, Christopher W. Huffman of Hedgesville; and four sisters, Missy Albright of Inwood, W.Va., Lt. Patty Hart, U.S. Navy, San Diego, and Amy C. Dawson and Becky Huffman, both of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.

Graveside services will be Monday at 11 a.m. in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Morgan County, W.Va.

Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.




Ruth Griffith, 88

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Ruth Griffith, 88, of Martinsburg, died Saturday, June 3, 2006, at Heartland of Martinsburg.

Born Aug. 30, 1917, in Martinsburg, she was the daughter of the late Ambrose R. and Odessa Clarke Hammill.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Griffith Jr., in 1984.

She was a homemaker.

She is survived by two daughters, Susan G. Sanders and Ruth B. Griffith, both of Martinsburg; and one son, Victor H. Griffith of Martinsburg.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Rosedale Funeral Chapel, Martinsburg. The Rev. William Riley will officiate. Private burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery.

Carroll D. McBee, 77

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Carroll Dwan McBee, 77, of Berkeley Springs, died Friday, June 2, 2006, at War Memorial Hospital.

Born May 18, 1929, in Cumberland, Md., he was the son of the late Lilburn W. McBee and Esther V. Mechem McBee.

He retired as partner of Arndt-McBee Insurance Agency in Berkeley Springs.

He served in the Air National Guard.

He was a member of St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church in Berkeley Springs.

He was past member and president of Berkeley Springs Rotary Club; and a member of Local Knights of Columbus Council 1291 4th degree, Berkeley Springs Volunteer Fire Department, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1483 of Berkeley Springs and the Romeo's.

He is survived by his wife, Margie Carroll McBee; one daughter, Teresa A. McBee Massimino of Shepherdstown, W.Va.; three sons, Stephen C. McBee and Patrick M. McBee, both of Berkeley Springs, and David E. McBee of Washington, D.C.; eight grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother, L. Kent McBee.

A Memorial Mass will be announced at a later date.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Arrangements are by Hunter-Anderson Funeral Home, Berkeley Springs.
