Two School Board members surprised by announcement

June 02, 2006

Two Washington County Board of Education members whose terms end this year said Thursday they were surprised by President W. Edward Forrest's announcement that he is running for a seat on the Washington County Commissioners.

Vice President Jacqueline B. Fischer and Paul W. Bailey said they have not decided whether they will run for re-election.

Forrest's announcement Thursday that he plans to run for County Commissioner could influence Fischer, who said she is "leaning toward" running.

One of four incumbents not facing re-election, Forrest is serving the second year of a four-year term on the board.

Bailey, who said he plans to come to a decision within the next few weeks, said he believes Forrest would be a good commissioner.

Only Ruth Anne Callaham and incumbent Russell F. Williams had filed for the election by Thursday. The deadline to file for open positions through the Washington County Board of Elections is July 3. The general election is Nov. 7.
