Betty L. Brown, 78

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Betty L. Brown, 78, of Charles Town, died Sunday, May 28, 2006, at Care Haven Center in Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born Aug. 13, 1927, in Los Angeles, she was the daughter of the late William Hale and Evelyn Simpson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Brown.

She was a licensed practical nurse in California.

She is survived by one daughter, Katherine Simoni of Las Vegas; one son, Charles J. Brown Sr. of Charles Town; one sister, Adonna Dull of California; four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Jeff Simpson and Glenn Snyder.

A memorial service will be Friday at 7 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home in Charles Town. The Rev. Richard Godfrey will officiate.


Burial will be private.

There will be no visitation.

Robert A. Clopper Sr., 47

PEABODY, Mass. - Robert A. Clopper Sr., 47, of Peabody, and formerly of Lynn, Mass., died suddenly on Friday at his home.

He was the son of J. Evelyn (Landry) Clopper of Middleton, Mass., and John E. and Irene E. Clopper of Clear Spring, Md. Born in Riverdale, Md., he was raised and educated in Maryland. Robert had lived in North Shore of Boston, Peabody, Salem and Lynn, most of his life.

He formerly worked as the owner and carpenter of Agape Construction, and most recently for Noysa Home Improvements.

Robert was a former member of Calvary Church in Peabody.

He enjoyed hunting, woodworking and working on his car.

Besides his parents, he is survived by five children, Monique Martin Airasian of Rhode Island, Kristen Martin of Peabody, Robert Clopper Jr. of Peabody, Kerin Clopper of Peabody and William McCracken of Maryland; three sisters, Karen Gonzalez and Ellen Hudson, both of Maryland, and Crystal Bona of Salem, Mass.; four brothers, John Clopper Jr., Daniel Kending and Martin Kending, all of Maryland, and Michael Clopper of Lynn. He also leaves several nieces and nephews.

Services will be Saturday, June 3, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul's Church, National Pike, Clear Spring. Burial will follow the service at St. Paul's Church Cemetery.

Family will receive friends Friday, June 2, 2006, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown.

Larry E. Golliday Sr., 50

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Larry E. "Whip" Golliday Sr., 50, of Martinsburg, died Wednesday, May 31, 2006, at City Hospital in Martinsburg.

Born Nov. 3, 1955, in Silver Spring, Md., he was the son of Betty Saunders Rhodes of LaGrange, N.C., the late John Golliday and stepson of the late Ivey Rhodes.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his fiance, Valerie Parks; one daughter, Tammy Burazzo of Walkersville, Md.; one son, Larry Golliday Jr. of Inwood, W.Va.; four grandchildren; nine brothers and sisters, Earl Golliday, Howard Saunders, Mary Scheetz, Nancy Nichols, Kathy Davis, Dixie Walter, Thelma Norris, Frances Burdette and Hannah Murphy; a niece; and nephews.

A memorial service will be Saturday at 4 p.m. at Westview Baptist Church. Pastor Johnny Kelly will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in care of Frances Burdette, 2453 Sutton Loop Road, LaGrange, NC 28551.

John J. Conner, 58

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - John Joseph Conner, 58, of Martinsburg, died Sunday, May 28, 2006, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Martinsburg.

Born in Boston, he was the son of the late James Thomas Conner and Martha Mary Burns Conner.

He was a builder and construction worker.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Edith Thompson Conner; one son, John J. Conner II of Butler, Pa.; one sister, Jean Plourde of Pasadena, Md.; one brother, James Conner of Maryland; two grandchildren; nieces; and nephews.

A graveside service will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Whatcoat Cemetery in Snow Hill, Md. The Rev. John Hornberger will officiate.

Arrangements are by Burbage Funeral Home in Snow Hill.

Daniel J. Zook, 81

DRY RUN, Pa. - Daniel J. Zook, 81, of 20476 Path Valley Road, died Wednesday, May 31, 2006, at his home.

Born March 22, 1925, in Gordonville, Pa., he was the son of the late Daniel F. and Sarah King Zook.

He is survived by his wife, Lydia S. Zook, whom he married May 10, 1994; 10 children, Ben of Addison, N.Y., Nancy of Charlotte Hill, Mo., Salina of Licking, Mo., Katie of Raymondville, Mo., Sarah of Raymondville, Simeon of Black River, Mo., Jonas of Mondovi, Wis., Enos of Groten, N.Y., Lizzie of Dry Run and Jacob of Dry Run; three stepchildren, David, Daniel and Mary, all of Dry Run; 76 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; 27 stepgrandchildren; and eight stepgreat-granchildren.
