You Said It

"It is not about a fight or jealousy - it's about the law. The lady called in to the city and they told her there was a law about burying your dead animals in your backyard, not to mention the fact that this cat was sick. It should have been put to sleep by Animal Control. If it deteriorates, it could get into our water and make us all sick. Also, animals could dig it up and the smell would be horrible."

"For the person who drives 65 mph and gets passed by faster vehicles all the time: Speed up. The safest drivers go with the flow of traffic. The speed limits are too low, so people naturally exceed them. Keep right, leave a four-second following interval and stop impeding the normal flow. My opinion could change once I'm older, but I'm over 50 and I haven't fogied out yet."

"This administration keeps bragging about the great economy. If that is true, why are we borrowing $2 billion a week from foreign countries? When are we going to pay the money back? What about the interest? What are we going to do in a recession? If the people operating my business would put me $2 billion in debt a week, I would bag the whole bunch and try to put them in jail."

"This is on saving gas. You don't have to buy a tiny economy car to get good gas mileage. Several of today's small family sedans can easily beat 25 miles per gallon, with both four- and six-cylinder engines. By comparison, the old VW Bug got only 26 miles per gallon without any frills or modern safety equipment."

"I'd just like to know when we are going to get our $150? Does anyone know the exact date, so I can keep an eye on my mailbox?"

- Hagerstown

"This is about the Funkstown Bridge on East Oak Ridge Drive, going into Funkstown. It's time to stop putting money into that one-lane bridge year after year, and build a bypass. Use the money wisely instead of throwing it away."

"It's nice that the neighbors put their garbage out along the road through the week, but I'd like for them to gather up whatever the trash men spreads around, which I guess drops out of the bags. Probably they don't have them secured tight enough. Other than that, things look good around this country road, but the people need to pick their garbage up when they get their trash cans and everything would be OK."

"I agree with Commissioner Wivell. The North High project for the new stadium has gotten totally out of hand. I believe the County Commissioners of Washington County could find a better way to spend $750,000 to benefit the entire community - if nothing else, to cut taxes or to help the elderly. This stadium is totally ridiculous."

- Boonsboro

"I'd like to know what the County Commissioners are going to think next November when they're sitting at home and they're not re-elected because they spent $750,000 on a high school football stadium. Get a grip."

"I wonder if anybody has seen the coyotes that are running around out on Appletown Road."

- Boonsboro

"What's up with all the new builders around here, putting up signs talking about 'now open' for purchase or lease or whatever, and in the low $200's? What's low about $200,000 for a town house? That's ridiculous. You should be able to have a single-family home and a couple of acres of land for that. Pretty soon they need to stop letting them build all around here. This ain't Beverly Hills, this is Hagerstown."

- Hagerstown

"To all the graduates out there, congratulations for a job well done. Please, please, please further your education through college or some kind of technical school or something because there ain't nothing around here anymore for just a plain graduate."

- Hagerstown

"Someone called in and said 'Did France make French their official language?' etc. The answer to that is 'Yes.' Not only did the French people make French their official language, but in the outskirts of France, where languages started changing a little bit, they were prosecuted into getting them to teach perfect French. So yes, there are countries that make their language the official language, and we should as well."

"I'd like to see if maybe the taxpayers in the City of Hagerstown would like to have a picket around the City Hall next Tuesday evening. The union folks and everybody was there last night, and maybe the taxpayers in the city should have their own picket line to let them know how we feel about the city taxes. I think it's a good idea, and maybe all of us should get together and get this thing organized and meet someplace. Anybody interested, put another letter in the mail or in (You Said It)."
