Man charged in handgun incident

A 27-year-old Hagerstown man was arrested Wednesday on charges he fired a handgun at another man April 12 while running down North Jonathan Street, according to charging documents.

Von Walker, whose last known address was 961 Linwood Road, was charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, handgun in the use of a felony/violent crime, handgun on person and discharging a firearm within city limits, documents state.

Walker, aka "Smokey," was being held at the Washington County Detention Center on $500,000 bond.

The man who Walker allegedly chased and fired upon was not found injured, documents state. The alleged assault was captured by police video cameras, documents state.

According to charging documents, after an apparently agitated Walker left New Visions Sports Lounge at 331 N. Jonathan St. about 1:15 a.m., he spoke with a woman who pulled up in a van outside the bar. After the conversation ended, Walker allegedly was holding what appeared to be a white piece of material he did not have in his hands before approaching the van, police allege in charging documents.

About a minute later, Walker was caught on police cameras running down the street, firing a handgun at another man who also was running, police allege in charging documents.

"A muzzle flash is clearly observed from two different camera angles," police said in court documents.

Two .32-caliber automatic pistol shell casings were recovered from the area where the gunfire allegedly occurred, police said.
