May 25, 2006

The executive vice president for the United Way of America will be the guest speaker June 1 at the 49th annual dinner for the United Way of Washington County at the Four Points Sheraton.

Brook Manville also is an author and director of the United Way's Center for Community Leadership.

Dale Bannon, executive director of the local United Way, said Manville is helping to lead a transformation of United Ways that is designed to strengthen their ability to make lasting changes within their communities.

"We are excited to have Manville be a part of this special evening and share his wealth of knowledge about community leadership and change," Bannon said.

During the evening, the 2005 campaign funding amounts to 39 programs of United Way partner agencies will be announced.

The Jesse L. Kagle Sr. service award will be given to the person who has demonstrated significant volunteer dedication to the community, especially through United Way - the organization for which Kagle was the longtime executive director.

The evening's events begin at 5:30 p.m. with a meeting to elect new board members and officers. The dinner and program begin at 6:30 p.m.

Reservations for the $25 dinner may be made by calling 301-739-8200, ext. 5.
