Home stretch

Seven more days and counting! We are on the home stretch now, boys and girls. This school year sure did fly ... at least from a parent's perspective it did. Such a fabulous year full of good friends ... great teachers.... a plethora of projects and fun activities. Some time over the next week be sure to let those who have been a part of your child's education just how much you appreciate them. A simple note is a great start!

Musical treat

A "Seussical" good time. That was the theme for the day. The second-graders at the elementary school gave a marvelous performance of "Seussical the Musical" today. All their hard work paid off and the show was just too much fun! Great job, everyone!

School events

As if you need reminding, however it's kind of what I do. Monday is Memorial Day ... a day we stop and take note of the service given our country ... please be sure to do just that as the kids enjoy a day off school. The final full week of school next week is chock full with a Character Counts! Celebration on Wednesday as well as a puppet show. First-graders travel to Renfrew Museum in Waynesboro on Wednesday and Thursday. The Pre K will have its end of the year picnic on Friday. And then ... drum roll, please ... the last day of school on Monday will be a half day! Busy, busy week next week, as well as this week.

Enjoy a BBQ

I know that many of you are planning a Memorial Day BBQ this weekend ... well, so is the Funkstown Volunteer Fire Company. On Saturday the 27th from 9:30 in the morning until they sell out, the volunteers will be offering some of the finest BBQ either side of the Antietam. On the menu is chicken, beef or ham, along with all the trimmings. Hope to see you there!

Home Tour

Looking ahead into June ... which I might add is just around the corner ... we see a Home Tour! The Women's Club invites you to a must see Home and Garden Tour on Saturday, June 10, from 10 in the morning until 4in the afternoon. Some of the most lovely and historic homes in the area will be featured for the cost of $20 for the entire tour or $5 per single home. A luncheon will be offered at the Women's Club on Prospect Street from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the cost of $7. If this sounds like your cup of tea, or you would like some more information, please call the Women's Club from nine am to one p.m. at 301-739-0970. The proceeds from this event will go toward the upkeep of the historic Women's Club building which also serves to house 18 rooms rented to women of need in our community.
