CVB 'familiarization tour' to travel to historical sites

May 24, 2006

The Hagerstown-Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau will host a training session Thursday for frontline tourism staffers called "Washington County On The Road."

The free "familiarization tour" is an annual event. It assists hotels, restaurants and other tourism-related businesses by educating their employees about Hagerstown and Washington County.

"This helps the frontline staff person to relay accurate information to visitors, and it often leads to guests to our community staying extra nights," said Betsy De Vore, director of sales for the CVB. "This event has been helpful for anyone coming into contact with visitors. We've also found that visitors come back when they have received accurate and helpful details about our community."

More than 25 employees of CVB member-businesses plan to attend. Stops on this year's tour include Washington Monument State Park, Antietam National Battlefield, Washington County Rural Heritage Museum, Prime Outlets Hagerstown, Hagerstown Speedway, Municipal Stadium, Washington County Museum of Fine Arts, Jonathan Hager House and Hagerstown Roundhouse Museum.

Several CVB members will participate or provide assistance during tour stops during the daylong event. Lunch will sponsored by the CVB and Prime Outlets, and the motorcoach is sponsored by Atlantic Coast Charters.
