Forestry board looks for biggest beech tree

May 23, 2006

The Washington County Forestry Board is searching for the biggest American beech tree in Washington County.

Do you have a possible champion in your yard or on your farm or know someone who does?

American beech grows in a variety of places and is a common component of the forests of this region, the Forestry Board said in a press release.

The Forestry Board will submit measurements of the largest local beech for inclusion in the Maryland register.

And, the owners of the local winner are to receive a plaque commemorating their American beech as the biggest in Washington County.

Entry deadline for the contest is Oct. 1.

For an entry form and measuring instructions, visit the local Forestry Board's website at: www.wcfb.sailorsite.net/
