May 22, 2006

LAKEWOOD, N.J. - Scott Mitchinson pitched six strong innings and Greg Golson and Clay Harris each hit a home run as the Lakewood BlueClaws routed the slumping Hagerstown Suns 12-3 Sunday.

The Suns (17-25) have lost eight of their last 10 games.

Hagerstown starter Jeff Landing (2-6) lasted only 2 2/3 innings, allowing nine runs (five earned), seven hits and five walks. He threw two wild pitches, hit a batter and made one of the Suns' three errors.

Lakewood (22-20) rallied for six runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a commanding 9-2 lead.

After giving up three runs in the third, Hagerstown got two back in the second to make it a 3-2 game. Leivi Ventura led off with a triple and Jonel Pacheco followed with an RBI double. With the bases loaded and one out, Pacheco scored from third on Joe Holden's RBI groundout.

Down 11-2, the Suns scored their final run in the seventh off reliever Brett Harker. Tony Piazza led off with a double, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on Drew Butera's RBI groundout.
