Suns lose in Lakewood

May 21, 2006

LAKEWOOD, N.J. - The Hagerstown Suns dropped to 2-4 on their current road trip as Lakewood took advantage of a walk and an error in a three-run seventh inning to beat the Suns 6-4 on Saturday.

The Suns tried to rally, getting a pair of runs in the top of the eighth on Leivi Ventura's seventh homer of the season, a two-run shot. But the Suns were retired in order in the ninth.

Lakewood starter Maximino De La Cruz (3-1) struck out seven Suns in seven innings of work.

Ventura and Sanchez each had two hits for Hagerstown (17-23), which is now seven games out of first in the South Atlantic League Northern Division.

Josh Appell (0-3) took the loss for the Suns, giving up four runs - three earned - on three hits and two walks in one-plus innings of work.
