MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - West Virginia State Police on Friday night were investigating the death of a woman found shot in a home on Tie Run Road.

First Sgt. Lisa Lambert said state troopers and the Berkeley County Ambulance Authority were sent to the home after receiving a call at 8:40 p.m. of a possible shooting. The body of a white female with a gunshot wound to the head was found in an office area of the house, Lambert said.

The name of the woman had not been released pending notification of next of kin, Lambert said.

A weapon was found, but Lambert said there were several weapons in the house. The circumstances of the shooting were under investigation, and the State Police Crime Scene Team was called in to process the scene, she said.

Lambert said it was undetermined whether the woman was alone at the time of the shooting. Investigators also were interviewing witnesses, she said.

"We're just at the beginning stages," and it was too early to determine whether the incident is a homicide, suicide or accident, Lambert said.

"We consider anything like this a homicide until we prove otherwise," Lambert said. "That's not to say it is a homicide."

The investigating officer and Crime Scene Team still were at the scene at 11 p.m., she said.
