RANSON, W.Va. - Former Washington Redskins Brian Mitchell, Ravin Caldwell and Ricky Ervins will appear at Saturday's fifth annual Ranson Festival at the Ranson Civic Center.

The former NFL players will be at the festival from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., and "Star Wars" stormtroopers will appear from 1 to 3 p.m.

The NASCAR race car that was the No. 88 car Dale Jarrett drove in the Pepsi 400 at Daytona International Speedway in 2003 will be on display, said Debbie McClure, one of the event organizers. The car now features the No. 28.

Other activities and entertainment include a puppet show, dance show, pony rides, karaoke, face painting, a petting zoo, crafts, clowns, a dunking booth, a Moonbounce, home and garden vendors, food vendors and a performance by the Page Jackson Elementary School chorus.

Local fire departments will demonstrate the proper use of a fire extinguisher, do a car extraction using the Jaws of Life, and have other activities.

People can swing a hammer at a demolition car in an effort to raise funds for a Charles Town Police Department officer, McClure said.

Mayor A. David Hamill will present this year's Community Service Appreciation Award at noon to a friend of George Rutherford on Rutherford's behalf.

Rutherford is president of the Ranson Board of Zoning Adjustment and president of the Jefferson County chapter of the NAACP.
