Grace Academy Missions Team performs projects

May 18, 2006

The Grace Academy Missions Team is a local service organization working to strengthen the community. The team was founded three years ago and has grown to include more than 50 members determined to make a difference by serving those in need.

For the month of April, the missions team led the school's students in collecting items needed by residents at Beverly Healthcare in Hagerstown. More than 300 items were collected, including personal-care items such as shampoo, toothpaste and body lotion, as well as items such as crossword books, magnifying glasses, games, puzzles and snack items.

On April 7, the missions team went to the Boys & Girls Club on Pennsylvania Avenue to work with children in grades 1 to 5. The team set up five stations where the children could learn and have fun, making bead and hemp bracelets, making Easter cards, playing games at the game station, and playing kickball and dodgeball in the gym. The team also read Bible stories to the children at the snack station.

On April 21, the missions team spent the morning at Star Community doing Earth Day projects. The students washed vehicles, raked and bagged leaves, weeded, put out mulch, planted trees and flowers, worked in the greenhouse, washed windows and worked in the kitchen.
