Eby is hospital's Nurse of the Year

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - "Care and Compassion in Island Fashion" was the theme of this year's Nurses' Week activities at Waynesboro Hospital.

Honored as the 2006 Nurse of the Year is Brenda Eby of the day surgery department. It was said of Eby during nurses' week, "compassion and knowledge define the level of care that Brenda brings to each patient. She truly enhances the quality of patient care, just by being the person that she is."

The Nurse of the Year award is given in recognition of an outstanding staff nurse who exhibits excellence in nursing skills, contributes significantly as a member of the health care team, utilizes exceptional interpersonal skills and contributes to community affairs.

In addition to Eby, other nominees for Nurse of the Year were Crissy Bryan, Connie Duffey, Rhianna Ellifritt, Barb Gearhart, Kelly Hess, Vicki Hultzapple, Karla Lear, Bobbi Link, Betsy McKelvey, Jill Phinicie, Sandra Pryor and Karen Sharrah.


The Benner Award is presented annually to nurses who exemplify achievement for extraordinary efforts in performance improvement. This year's recipients are Laura Velesquez, Nancy Musselman, Vickie Carnes, and Connie Duffey. The Customer Service Award was given to the critical care department and the family birthing services department.

Community yard sale to benefit MDA

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - The Waynesboro office of Jack Gaughen Realtor ERA will host its annual community yard sale on Saturday, June 17, to help those struggling with muscular dystrophy.

The agents and staff will host the event at the office, 1814 E. Main St., from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Residents of Wayne Heights and Hillendale area are welcome to drop off items for the yard sale at the office during regular business hours.

The agents and staff are hoping to raise $3,000 to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
