Suspenseful 'Poseidon'

May 16, 2006|by JIM KLICK

The new movie "Poseidon" (rated PG-13) is an excellent movie. Even though the plot is pretty much the same as the original "The Poseidon Adventure" from 1972, most minor details, like scenes and names, were changed.

It's still a race to survive as a cruise ship capsizes, and a group of people break off and head for the hull, thinking that's their best chance for rescue. The biggest change is time. In the original, the story takes place in the '70s, but the new version takes place in modern times.

The graphics far surpass the original movie's, but since the blood looks so real and the glimpses of the dead are graphic, I would not recommend "Poseidon" to those who get queasy at the sight of blood or dead people. I'm just glad it wasn't 3-D. If it was, it would have been twice as freaky.

"Poseidon" is full of suspense for those who, like myself, like that sort of thing. I give it 7 sinking ships out of 10.
