Darlene W. Kendle, 67

BOONSBORO - Darlene W. Kendle, 67, of Old National Pike, died Sunday, May 14, 2006, at Homewood at Williamsport.

Born Sept. 29, 1938, in Waynesboro, Pa., she was the daughter of Mabel C. Dunham Neikirk of Cavetown and the late W. Earl Neikirk.

She was employed by Reeders Memorial Home in Boonsboro.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Owen Leon Kendle; one daughter, Cherie R. Pryor of Hagerstown; three sons, Doug L. Kendle of Hagerstown, Eric L. Kendle of Sacramento, Calif., and Kyle K. Kendle of Sharpsburg; one sister, Bernice N. Rinehart of Leitersburg; and six grandchildren.

A memorial service will be Wednesday at 6 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Leitersburg. Pastor Terry W. Culler will officiate.


The family will receive friends in the church's social hall following the service.

Kenneth D. Norton, 61

HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - Kenneth Donald Norton, 61, of Harpers Ferry, died Sunday, May 14, 2006, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Ranson, W.Va.

Born Feb. 16, 1945, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late William Elmer Norton and Melba Montgomery Norton.

He was owner and proprietor of Stone House Antiques in Harpers Ferry for 36 years, having earned the title of Ambassador of Harpers Ferry.

He was of the Methodist faith.

He was an accomplished music and played at Bradburn Methodist Church in District Heights, Md., for 22 years. He also played at Constitution Hall.

He is survived by three brothers, William E. Norton of Charles Town, W.Va., John D. Norton of Locust Grove, Va., and Charles R. Norton of Clearwater, Fla.; and 12 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Gail A. Combs.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, Charles Town/Harpers Ferry. Burial will be in Washington National Cemetery in Suitland, Md.

The family will receive friends two hours prior to services.

Virginia E. Lum, 99

MARCH 15, 1907-MAY 14, 2006

BOONSBORO - Virginia Elizabeth Lum, 99, a resident of Reeders Memorial Home and formerly of 8923 Lums Lane, died Sunday, May 14, at the home.

Born March 15, 1907, in Shepherdstown, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late James Edward and Bessie Jane Koontz Hammersla.

Her husband, William Oscar Lum, died Feb. 20, 1968.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Evangelical Christian Church in Mount Lena.

She is survived by two daughters, Ethel V. Waters of Falling Waters, W.Va., and Betty J. Castle of Boonsboro; one son, Richard L. Lum of Boonsboro; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 19 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two daughters, Shirley Fisher and Beatrice Lum; two sons, Charles Lum and James Lum; three sisters; and five brothers.

Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Bast Funeral Home, Boonsboro. The Rev. James Mueller will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Lena Cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Richard E. Mills, 66

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Richard E. Mills, 66, of 3365 St. Thomas-Williamson Road, died Sunday, May 14, 2006, at The Village of Laurel Run, Fayetteville, Pa.

Born June 7, 1939, in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late John W. and Luella Mae Beck Mills.

He worked in a manufacturing plant in Rochester, N.Y., for 20 years.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Mercersburg, Pa.

He was a member of South Mountain Fish and Game Association, and a former member of Eclipse Fire Co. of Mercersburg.

He is survived by one son, John Mills of Rochester; one brother, Robert W. Mills of Fayetteville; and two grandchildren.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, Mercersburg. The Rev. Michael L. Baughman will officiate. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery, Lemasters, Pa.

Viewing will be held one hour prior to services Thursday in the funeral home.

Melissa A. Jacques, 26

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Melissa A. Jacques, 26, of Hedgesville, died Sunday, May 14, 2006, at the home of her parents.

Born April 8, 1980, in Berkeley County, W.Va., she was the daughter of Robert O. Jacques Sr. and Linda Stevens Jacques of Hedgesville.

She was a graduate of Hedgesville High School.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by two sisters, Ashley Jacques and Jessica Jacques, both of Hedgesville; two brothers, Robert O. Jacques Jr. and Lester Jacques, both of Hedgesville; and two nieces.

Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. Pastor Tom Bogges will officiate. Burial will be private.
