Cruiser, pickup collide head-on

officer treated

May 12, 2006

A marked Hagerstown Police Department cruiser patrolling Dual Highway was struck head-on early Thursday by a pickup truck that was traveling the wrong way near Hagerstown Billiards, Lt. Richard Reynolds said.

The cruiser's driver, Officer Wayne Hose, was taken to Washington County Hospital following the reported 2:14 a.m. accident in the 1800 block of Dual Highway. The driver of the truck has not been found, but the truck was found abandoned in the parking lot of the nearby Martin's Food Market, he said. Reynolds could not provide a description of the truck.

Hose was treated at the hospital and later released, Reynolds said.

Reynolds said the cruiser "got significant damage," but whether the cruiser was totaled in the wreck has yet to be determined.

"Hose unsuccessfully attempted to swerve his cruiser away from the truck," Reynolds said.

Reynolds said he did not know in which direction Hose was traveling, or in which lanes of U.S. 40 the accident occurred.
