Brad Schaeffer had three goals and six assists in the first half as Smithsburg cruised to an 18-1 boys lacrosse victory over North Hagerstown in the final regular season game for both teams.

"If we have the ball, it is pretty much 100 percent guaranteed that we are going to finish," Schaeffer said. "We have a lot of offensive threats. Anybody can have a high-scoring game at any time."

Kevan Schellenberg collected three goals and two assists, while Craig Hoban chipped in with two goals and three assists for the Leopards (10-3). Josh Hudson got two goals and one assist, while Mike Crunkleton and Brendan Roberts added two goals each.

The Leopards play host to Brunswick tonight at 6:45 in the first round of the Maryland Class 2A-1A West playoffs. North Hagerstown (1-11) plays at Poolesville tonight at 6.

"Everybody keeps a positive attitude all of the time," Schaeffer added. "They don't get down if they make mistakes. I guess we are putting it together right before the playoffs. If we can continue to play well like this, we can go far in the playoffs."

The Leopards had a 9-0 lead after one period and took a 15-0 advantage into halftime.

Lucas Feight had the only goal for the Hubs (1-11). Goalkeeper Matt Amalfitano had 10 saves.

Matt Leeney had seven saves for Smithsburg.

"They jumped on us early. Any time you dig yourself a hole early and get down 5-0 in the middle of the first quarter, you have a very long uphill battle for the rest of the game," North Hagerstown coach Jeff Hartman said. "Smithsburg is a very well-rounded team. Anytime that you give a good team time and room to shoot like that, they are just going to put the ball in the net."
