Scouts work to fix up hall

May 09, 2006

CLEAR SPRING - The Boy Scouts of Troop 117 in Clear Spring are trying to make structural improvements to the 1873 building on Mill Street so they can make better use of the structure donated to them many years ago and used as the scout hall.

The troop is striving to raise enough funds to restore the building so it will be structurally sound and an asset to the community of Clear Spring.

A lot of labor has been donated but there is a need for supplies and money to purchase new spouting, front doors, rear doors, roofing and new flooring in the bell tower, which also needs to be restored.

The estimated cost is $9,000, with several groups offering to help defray those costs.

Former Scouts and parishioners of the church are being sought to help with the project.

The scouts are seeking financial support to advance the project. For more information, call 301-842-3637 or 301-842-3505.
