Skin Cancer Awareness Week begins

May 08, 2006

As part of Washington County Hospital's efforts for Skin Cancer Awareness Week, there will be information on skin cancer as well as a skin-damage-analysis machine from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. and from 3 to 6 p.m. today and Tuesday, May 9, in the hospital lobby; and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 10, in the Robinwood Medical Center atrium. This DermaScan machine uses ultraviolet light to detect areas of skin damage caused by the sun and other factors. Scans are free during those times. A free gift also will be available.

Skin cancer is the most common of all cancers and accounts for nearly half of all cancers in the United States. The American Cancer Society predicts more than 62,000 new cases of skin cancer for 2006.
