Library diirector to participate in Leadership Maryland class

Mary Baykan, director of the Washington County Free Library, has been named to the board of the Greater Hagerstown Committee.

In that capacity, she will work with the Urban Renewal Task Force and the Technical Task Force.

She also has been accepted into the Leadership Maryland Class of 2006-07.

Each year, 50 leaders from around the State of Maryland are selected by a group of their peers to participate in the Leadership Maryland program. Participants meet and talk with Maryland's current public and private sector leaders and explore the state's opportunities, needs and resources through a systematic educational program.

She is a 1997 graduate of Leadership Hagerstown.

Baykan earned a B.A. in political science from the University of Houston, an M.A. in library and information science from the University of South Florida, and an M.B.A. in business from Frostburg State University.

She earned a certificate from the JFK School of Government at Harvard University.
