Modern Woodmen's Camp 15456 and its Junior Club will partner with the Humane Society of Washington County to clean the shelter, plant flowers and exercise the dogs. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today, and is part of Join Hands Day 2006.

This is an open house also. Any pet adopted on this day will get a welcome home basket.

Studies by the Join Hands Day organization show the annual event is bridging the generation gap. Almost 80 percent of youth survey respondents who participated in 2003 and 2004 reported that Join Hands Day helped them better appreciate adults.

Likewise, 76 percent of adults who participated now realize that young people are more responsible than they previously thought.
