Spring show to benefit Relay for Life

The Spring Craft, Flower, Garden and Gift Show will be today at the Grand Venice Hotel Wedding and Conference Center in Hagerstown.

All proceeds from the show will benefit the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. The event includes more than 45 vendors from the area and out of town, promoter Linda Williams said.

The show will be held from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Relay for Life is an overnight event in which teams take turns running or walking laps. The event is designed to celebrate cancer survivors and raise money for American Cancer Society research and programs, according to the society's Web site.


Girls Inc. reunion scheduled for May 21

A reunion of Girls Inc. members from years past will be Sunday, May 21, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the 626 Washington Ave. club.

Marjorie Grumbacher, who served as vice president of the first board of directors in 1948, said the event will include a tour of the recently remodeled building, refreshments and a program by current Girls Inc. members.

Those who attend are asked to bring old photos and memorabilia to share with others at this free event.

Road work to close part of Oak Ridge

A portion of East Oak Ridge Drive will be closed to through traffic from Monday, May 15, until approximately Friday, June 2, for road work, according to a press release from the Washington County Engineering Department.

The work area will extend from Md. 65 to the Funkstown Bridge, and detour signs will be posted.

All work is scheduled to be completed on or about June 30.
